Physical properties of frozen soils measured using ultrasonic techniques
نویسندگان
چکیده
The velocity of ultrasonic waves traveling in a media reflects the dynamic properties of that media, which should depend on the physical properties. Taking advantage of the easy-operation and non-destructive nature of the ultrasonic technology, it is possible to determine some physical properties of frozen soils indirectly by using this technique, either in the laboratory or in the field. A series of experiments were carried out to obtain dynamic properties of frozen soils and to establish relationships between ultrasonic velocities and unfrozen water contents, as well as the strength of frozen soil. Experimental results have indicated that the strength of frozen soil can be estimated as a function of a single factor by measuring the ultrasonic velocities. Additionally, ultrasonic velocities can be used to predict the unfrozen water content of frozen soil for different temperatures. Using the Ultrasonic Nondestructive Methods for Prediction of Mechanical Properties of AISI 4140 Alloy Steel
Achieving the mechanical properties of steels after various manufacturing and heat treatment processes is significant and essential. In production lines, after producing the specific and standard samples, mechanical properties have been measured by destructive processes which cause waste of cost and time. In addition, destructive techniques cannot detect the miniscule changes made in mechanical...
متن کاملCharacterisation of frozen orange juice by ultrasound and wavelet analysis
Ultrasound technology was used to analyse the freezing behaviour of orange juice. The ultrasonic properties of orange juice, specifically velocity and attenuation coefficient, were characterised as the temperature was decreased from 20 to −50 ◦C. The results were compared with NMR free induction decay data and correlated with the amount of unfrozen water present in the frozen sample. The veloci...
متن کاملMeasurement and Modelling of the Rubber Resilience based on Ultrasonic Non-destructive Testing in Tires
In tire industry, it is very crucial to evaluate physical and mechanical properties of the rubber which is used for production of the tire, to ensure the quality of the final product. Resilience is an important property of a rubber, which cannot be evaluated through direct measurement in production cycle in this industry. Therefore, non-destructive ultrasonic testing, which has been used in man...

Background and Objective: The quality of flat breads depends in part on the textural and structural properties of breads during storage. These properties are largely affected by flour quality. This research aimed at evaluating textural and structural properties of Lavash bread types during storage by different techniques, comparing these methods and determination of correlation between their re...
متن کاملThe Ability of Ultrasonic Characterization to Extract the Dose Distribution of MAGIC-f Polymer Gel
Background & Aims: Today, different imaging techniques have been studied in the reading of radiationsensitive polymer gels dosage. Due to limitations of imaging techniques such as magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and computed tomography (CT), ultrasound techniques are proposed for dose-dependent parameter extraction. In this study, using MAGIC-f (methacrylic and ascorbic acid in gelatin initiat...
